Overview
Dhatura is one of the herbs traditionally used in Ayurveda for inflammation. Dhatura is a poisonous plant containing tropane alkaloids. After purification (Shodhana), its seeds and leaves are used in asthma, chronic fevers, pain, inflammation, and skin diseases. White and black varieties exist; the white variety is preferred medicinally. It is sacred to Lord Shiva. Excessive dose causes delirium, hallucinations, and death. Applied externally as a pain-relieving paste in joints and inflammatory conditions. Used in fumigation for respiratory disorders. Verses: 179-183.
